WeiYun Chang, Taiwan

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1998, WeiYun started to learn the piano at the age of 5. After four years study with teacher Hui Jun Huang, she was admitted to Gu-Ting Elementary School’s Music Gifted Class, studying with Professor Chia Wei Chung. Four years later, she came up to the Affiliated High School of National Taiwan Normal University, which was the renowned music school in Taiwan, and has been studying with Professor Chin Wen Tu.

 

WeiYun took part in numerous piano competitions and was awarded prizes, including the Fourth Prize of Kawai National Piano Competition(Taiwan, 2012), Second Prize of Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts Concerto Competition (Massachusetts, 2014), and in 2015, she won the first prize in the 19th PIARA semi-final in Taiwan area, which allowed her to take part in the final concours in Hamamatsu (Japan, 2015). In 2016, Wei Yun was selected to take part in San Jose International Piano Competition and was awarded the Special Prize for the Best Performance of a Chopin Etude and a scholarship to VIP Academy in Vienna. 2016 in September, she won the championship in the Future Stars International Piano Competition, which gave her opportunity to take part in the 2017 Chopin International Piano Festival in Poland. In November, furthermore, she got selected into Young Pianist of the North International competition in the United Kingdom, and after fierce competition, she was selected to be one of five finalists.

 

WeiYun continues developing her skills in every field through her teacher's guidance. Furthermore, she substantially broadens her horizons by participating in music festivals, including Walnut Hill Music Festival, in which she had lessons with Professor Bruce Brubaker, Professor Pi-Hsien Chen, Professor Meng-Chieh Liu, Professor Minsoo Sohn, Professor Hung-Kuan Chen, Professor Tema Blackstone; MusicAlps Festival, in which she studied with Professor Pascal Devoyon, Professor Rikako Murata. Besides, she also took part in master classes, including Professor Victor Rosenbaum's Master Class, Professor Vivian Weilerstein's Master Class, Dr. Yu-Jane Yang's Master Class, Professor Meng-Chieh Liu's Master Class, and Professor Bernd Goetzke's Master Class.
