Elliot Wuu, USA

Elliot Wuu has won numerous state, national and international competitions and performed across the globe. He won the First Prize and Klavierhaus award for Best Performance of Romantic piece in the Kaufman International Youth Piano Competition. He is the two-time first-place winner of the Pacific Musical Society Competition of which Yehudi Menuhin, Leon Fleisher, and Ruth Slenczynska were among the past winners; and at the turn of the century of the Society, Elliot also won the special Centennial scholarship award for the best performer in the centennial competition of all categories. Most recently, Elliot was the winner of California MTNA Competition as well as the Southwest Division MTNA Competition, and he won Second Place in the MTNA National Competition in Chicago. 

 

Other notable top prizes he received include First Prize in Young Musician Category and Second Prize in Junior Category of the International Russian Music Piano Competition, First Prize of the ENKOR Piano and Violin Competition, Winner of the Piano Award of the Mondavi Young Artists Competition, Winner of California CAPMT Competitions for numerous years, Winner of Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition of the Peninsula Symphony, First Prizes in the US Open Music Competition and the East Bay Piano Competition. As winner of El Camino Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, Elliot was a featured soloist performing with the Symphony. Elliot was also a semi-finalist in the Gina Bachauer International Competition.

 

In the recent years, Elliot has performed in major venues in the U.S., Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, and China. His performance at the Merkin Concert Hall was aired on WQXR. He also performed at Holywell Music Room where Haydn performed before. He performed at Ravinia Festival in a sold-out concert. Elliot made his solo recital debut in the Sherman Clay Steinway Young Pianist Recital in May 2012. He also performed in Steinway Society Young Artist Concert, Pacific Musical Society Centennial Gala, Peninsula Symphony Family Concert, and Junior Bach Festival.  Furthermore, Elliot likes to share his music with all ages and supports the community. He has regularly performed for benefit concerts, fundraising events, senior homes and school outreach. 


As a devout student of music, Elliot has learned from many great teachers, musicians, and mentors, near hometown or from afar at festivals. Born in September 1999 in Fremont, CA, Elliot began piano studies at the age of six with Larisa Kagan and a year later with Jed Galant.  He is currently a San Francisco Conservatory of Music pre-college student and studies piano under the tutelage of Yoshikazu Nagai. While attending Valley Christian High School, Elliot is also a music student of its Conservatory of the Arts program. He has also benefited from the support of Rose Chen, music mentor of his family. 

 

For further music study, Elliot has performed and participated in international music festivals, including Amalfi Music & Arts Festival, Oxford Philomusica Piano Festival and Beijing International Music Festival and Academy. He performed in masterclasses for artists such as Ruth Slenczynska, Dame Fanny Waterman, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Matti Raekallio, John Perry, Niel Immelman, Duane Hulbert, and Yin Chengzhong.

 

In November 2013, he was selected as one of the twelve young pianists from around the world to participate in the Inaugural Lang Lang Junior Music Camp in Munich, Germany, where he performed and worked with Lang Lang in concert and masterclass. Since 2014, Elliot is named a young scholar of Lang Lang International Music Foundation with the mission of inspiring and educating the next generation of classical music lovers and performers. 

 

Aside from music, Elliot enjoys golf, billiards and iPad games. He is also a big fan of Peanuts Comics and especially loves Schroeder
